Montague Family
Staying Connected with our family. One day at a time!

The Descendants
By Leann Montague-Whitley
We’re all the descendants.
Of A-lee and Peter,
There’s only one way
To make this banquet sweeter
If they were actually here
To meet everyone,
From the oldest Grandma
To the youngest Grandson
They’d be so proud
To see who we now are,
For them to know
That we’ve come so very far
From sharecropper
And farm hand,
To the board room
To owning our own land
From growing tobacco
And cotton too,
To streets in Charleston
Named Montague
It was Alex Haley
Who ignited the flame,
To trace the roots
Of our family name
So many ancestors
We wish we could know,
Are we maybe related
To the infamous Romeo?
8 generations
With 5 still alive,
All over the world,
The Montagues thrive
Gathering yearly
Since 1970,
54 years
Of love and unity
A-Lee and Peter
Indeed are here,
They’re in every smile
They’re in every tear
As descendants
Of the family, Montague,
Peter and A-Lee
Live inside of me and you!
